FAQs regarding an PRRA application
A Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA) is a process that allows individuals facing removal from Canada to apply for protection if they believe they would face persecution, torture, risk to life, or cruel and unusual treatment or punishment in their home country.
PRRA is typically available to individuals who are:
– Under a removal order from Canada.
– Not eligible to apply for refugee status or have had a prior refugee claim refused.
– Not barred from applying due to the 12-month PRRA restriction (unless there are new risk factors in the country of origin).
A PRRA officer will assess whether the applicant faces:
– Persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
– Torture as defined under international conventions.
– Risk to life or cruel and unusual treatment or punishment if returned to their home country.
If approved, you may receive protected person status and can apply for permanent residence in Canada.
