FAQs regarding Citizenship By Descent
Most Canadian citizens and permanent residents are eligible to sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner. There are requirements to ensure the genuineness of the relationship and the financial ability of the sponsored to support their spouse in Canada.
No, there is no requirement for language proficiency. However, when your spouse will apply to become a Canadian citizen, they have to prove their language ability in either English or French.
Yes, in most cases, once you receive the AOR for the spousal sponsorship application, you can apply for a SOWP.
There are many documents required for both the sponsored and the sponsored spouse. Once you sign up with us, we will send you a detailed document checklist. We generally ask for documents over and above the minimum requirement to increase your chances of success and convince the assessing officer of your case. One of the most important things in a spousal sponsorship application is to prove the genuineness of the relationship with your spouse.
There is no general answer that works in every case. Sometimes, due to the long processing times for visitor visa applications, our consultant may recommend an outland sponsorship. In many cases, it is better to get the spouse to Canada first and then apply for spousal sponsorship. All these details are discussed during the initial consultation with our consultant.
