What are the AAIP Program Streams?

Alberta PNP offers a diverse range of program streams designed to meet the needs and aspirations of individuals from various backgrounds and skill sets. Here’s an overview of the available streams for both workers and entrepreneurs.

Alberta PNP Streams for Workers

Within the AAIP, there are three streams dedicated to foreign workers who currently reside and work in Alberta or have intentions to do so:

Alberta Opportunity Stream

The Alberta Opportunity Stream caters to temporary foreign workers. They should currently be employed full-time in Alberta and have received a full-time job offer from an eligible Alberta employer. To be eligible for this stream, candidates should either possess a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or hold one of the recognized LMIA exemption work permits. Additionally, candidates must meet specific minimum requirements related to residency, work permit type, occupation, language proficiency, education, Alberta job offer, and work experience.

Alberta Express Entry Stream

The Alberta Express Entry Stream is designed for Alberta to nominate a limited number of eligible candidates from the Express Entry system managed by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. Qualified candidates with profiles in the federal Express Entry pool that align with these criteria may receive an invitation to apply for nomination. There are specific pathways dedicated to healthcare professionals and technology workers, providing them with unique opportunities. To be considered for this stream, you must receive an invitation to apply, and you cannot apply for nomination without an official invitation.

Alberta Tourism and Hospitality Stream

The AAIP Tourism and Hospitality Stream on March 1, 2024.  This stream is for temporary foreign workers already employed full-time in Alberta’s tourism and hospitality sector. You must also have a full-time job offer from a qualifying Alberta employer in an eligible occupation. Additionally, you must have a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and meet the minimum eligibility criteria for occupation, job offer, work experience, education, and language proficiency.

Rural Renewal Stream

The Rural Renewal Stream aims to attract and retain newcomers in rural Alberta. This approach is community-driven and aligns with local economic development needs. It also contributes to the growth of these communities by supporting residency, employment, and settlement of foreign nationals. Temporary foreign workers with a job offer from an Alberta employer in a designated community, along with an endorsement letter from that community, are eligible to apply for an AAIP nomination. In addition, communities can provide endorsements for qualifying refugees through the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) with the assistance of non-governmental referral partners.

Alberta PNP Streams for Entrepreneurs

Within the AAIP, there are four streams tailored for entrepreneurs who intend to reside in Alberta and either purchase or initiate a business within the province. Check out the Alberta Business Immigration Program details below

Rural Entrepreneur Stream

The Rural Entrepreneur Stream constitutes an economic immigration program. It’s for entrepreneurs who wish to start or purchase a business in a rural Alberta community. To get started, candidates can submit an Expression of Interest.

Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

Farm Stream

This pathway is intended for entrepreneurs possessing the financial means and farm management expertise required to either initiate a new farm venture or acquire an existing one in Alberta. Applicants are required to submit their application, along with a proposed business plan to the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program for evaluation. The AAIP will collaborate with Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation to verify the feasibility and viability of the business plan, ensuring it aligns with the requirements of Alberta’s agriculture sector.
